I was invited and sponsored to deliver a lecture titled, “Holistic Approach to Horse Behaviorism” and conduct a two-hour interactive workshop.  For the workshop I was given the opportunity to select an Arabian racing horse owned by the Royal Equestrian Club to use in demonstrating my BSNHorsesMethod©.  Over the 3 day conference, there were approximately 10,000 equestrian horse lovers and professionals in attendance.

I SPECIALIZE IN  SADDLE FITTING PROBLEMS

 Saddle problems are a growing problem for horses.

 Here are some things to consider when fitting your horse with its saddle.

​

• Does your horse have back problems?

• Ears pinned back when you bring the saddle to the horse?

• Is it trying to bite you?

• Kicking or other misbehaving when you try to saddle up?

• Does your horse arch it's back when riding?

• is it's head kept high, and  not on the bit?

• Is your horse reluctant to move forward?

 There are many more indicators to look out for​. It is important to look for the horses behavior,because it's trying to tell  you that something is wrong. Horses use body language to communicate and show discomfort.

 Some pointers in selecting a good saddle

​

• Tree angle and shoulder space of the gullet should be open for shoulder movement. 

• Saddle channel width needs to be right 

• Are you leaning backwards, or to the front in the saddle?

• Out of balance in the saddle?

• Do you feel insecure in the saddle?

• Do you have back or hip pain?

                                      SPECIALIZED IN  HORSE BACK PROBLEMS - wrong  TRAINING CAUSES PROBLEMS​

​

                  Does your horse suffer from?

Hunters bump, kissing spine, bumps, swelling or tenderness? Any other symptoms?

​

Hollow back ( seen on jumpers, dressage) - is caused by the horse not correctly ridden on the bit and using it's back. The horse will move with an arch back, trying to avoid the pressure.

Broken neck syndrome C2-C3, This can be seen on the neck as a "broken" cervical vertebrae. It is visual.

Rollkur - damages the horse's by forcing the horse's head down. It'll block it's vision to the front, cause breathing problems and  pinched saliva glands 

Kissing Spine - can be seen in a skeletal x-ray, or seen by the eye on the spine as a big bumb abnormality. The horse will experience pain and discomfort in moving forward.

Bumps or white hair  - are visible on the body, usually under the saddle and a result of incorrect nutrition and saddle fit

Swelling - there will be discomfort during palpation, and is also visual

Tenderness - discomfort during the palpation and sensitive to the touch

Horse health issues have grown over the years.  By the time the horse reaches age 9,  they are usually damaged and traumatized due to poor nutrition,  excessive demands to performance and lack of knowledge in caring for horses.

Horses back skeleton grows until 6-6 ½ y, big breeds 8-8½y.  Youngsters as 3 year old ridden, especially jumping before the age 6, can cause serious trauma in the back. Joints, ligaments and tendons need time to grow with limited pressure. Training in a cycle where the pressure to the horses ligaments is slowly gained. All  will grow in balance with the muscles to get stronger is recommended. A horse's back was not made to carry anyone, this we have to recognize as trainers. To much pressure in short time causes problems. 

Horses are just the same as you, as an athlete. Build it up..step by step..it takes time to build and strengthen all 4 legs to move correct in balance. It needs to learn how to handle the heavy body weight. All pieces put together in time will help to avoid and prevent  injuries. Feed planning is my main thing in getting horses gut healed. Since the horse needs good nutrition and organic minerals to stay healthy. Food is thy medicine. The macrobiotic in the gut effects your horses immune response. Well being is also seen on horse behavior, coat , hoofs and manure. All is a big chain reaction. I do functional medicine nutrition planning to horses. Horses need the right feed to stay healthy! You either get the nutrition correct, or you pay the vets to put the band aids on it!

Knowing the genetic makeup of the breed of horse it's crucial in bettering the health of your horse and training.

They have genes that teach them to react as prey animals. They are reactive to our world, since that is their nature. They live by the rule as an prey animal.  Your horse is made with genes of flight, fight response and claustrophobia 

If it's uncomfortable, or scared the behaviorism changes into nervousness and stress. Horses defend / reacts by fleeing or attacking. But we as the leader need to understand it and be the safe ALFA mare. People make mistakes, that horses react to, never to blame the horse. You should look in the mirror, what you do wrong?

The horse reacts always to what you do! Seen to many cases of horses getting the blame, of humans stupidity! Always the horses fault, and you never watch in the mirror and take the responsibility of your own mistakes, you have problems. Not the horse!
